David does his dangdest to get Tom to go home. While he tries, eventually he recognizes that Tom's not going to budge.

Not that he doesn't have reason or anything. With a brother knocking on death's door and a sure fight waiting for him when he gets home, Tom has a lot of reasons NOT to leave.
